Our team of clinical gastroenterologists provides diagnostic evaluation and testing for stomach, intestinal, colonic, liver, pancreatic and nutritional illnesses. In addition, our registered nurses, trained in pediatrics as well as gastrointestinal and nutritional problems, offer valuable advice and guidance during and after your visit.
You and your child have special concerns so we provide as much education and information as possible. We have made one of our printed brochures (Constipation: A Parent’s Guide) available on the web as a PDF document.
The division welcomes physician, patient and family inquiries. To speak with a physician, to consult about a patient or to refer a patient, please call:

What to expect
Preparing for a visit to pediatric gastroenterology
We understand that medical visits can feel overwhelming, especially when your child is facing digestive or liver concerns. Here’s what you can expect during your first appointment:
Before you arrive
- Eating & preparation: Your child may eat normally before the visit unless our staff advises otherwise.
- Bring records: Please bring all relevant medical records and radiology images (not just reports), including X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans and MRIs. These help us avoid repeat testing and ensure accurate evaluation.
During the appointment
- Initial interview: You and your child will meet with a provider to discuss:
- Current symptoms
- Medical and family history
- Educational, social, and psychological background
- Vital signs & physical exam:
- Your child will be weighed and measured
- Blood pressure is taken for children age 3 and older
- A complete physical exam will be performed
- Adolescents may be asked to wear a hospital gown
- Younger children are typically examined by gently adjusting clothing
- A digital rectal exam may be included; your calm reassurance can help your child feel more comfortable
- Lab samples: Blood, urine or stool samples may be requested during the visit
After the exam
The gastroenterologist will review findings and may recommend additional testing or treatment. A comprehensive report will be sent to your child’s primary care physician, outlining:
- Clinical impressions
- Potential diagnoses
- Plans for further evaluation or management
